So I started of writing this blog with the intention of explaining ‘what I do’. After listing some points I realised you can pretty much sum it up in a few sentences. I studied graphic design and marketing, worked at a publishing house as a new business executive – creating and pitching new custom magazine products for blue chip companies and I have travelled…a lot. Much to my parents horror I have travelled to some very unusual places, I lived in rural Costa Rica when I was 18, not speaking a word of Spanish and most recently North Africa and the Middle East with my great friends – my school mate and my Canon SLR. If I could travel the world taking photos all my life, I would be a very happy girl.
After writing all of this, I realised what my great love is now. Besides my amazing fiancé – it would have to marketing. I LOVE watching a product develop from a tiny idea to a hit. Sad I know.
Artists often come in here asking what they should do to market their products better. There really is one simple answer to this. Get your product AND YOUR brand in people’s faces.
Now I am not a big user of facebook on a personal level. I’ve never updated my status with what I have had for dinner, but I do update my status and use it for business purposes and trust me, it works. I placed a status on facebook saying I was having Christmas drinks in the shop – about 70 of my ‘facebook friends’ showed up – some who I hadn’t seen in years. I don’t know whether it was the offer of a free glass of bubbly on arrival, but I didn’t care – they spent money!
60% of facebook users log on every day. That is a huge statistic and a marketers dream! Imagine logging on and seeing a beautiful new picture of the latest range of your products on people’s newsfeed? People will start remember your brand! If someone comments on your picture – ALL THEIR FRIENDS see your photo. The best thing about it is that it is completely free.
My other bit of advice for my artists is to have business cards in your cubes – preferably with a link to your facebook page! Mosman has become a little hub for personal shopping companies. I love it! Ladies come in and look for items for their clients. The items they like, they take the business card of the artist so their clients can see their products online before coming over to the shop. I don’t know what your thoughts are, but it can only be a good thing if people who can afford a personal shopper purchase your products!
I better stop rambling on before I start going on about branding – I told you I loved it!
Go on, while you are on the internet, what are you waiting for – set up that facebook page.

Hi Susanne,
that was such a great read, thank you!!!!!!
I have set up a face book site for my work, but just did a very large painting as a commission and forgot to put it on face book! You are so right. So thanks very much for those really helpful comments. Its is so easy to do.
Lovely to hear 70 people in for bubbly too! I hope the shop is going gang busters and life is great for you. Congrats on your engagement too! I guess there are a few things that might keep you in Australia for awhile now!
All the best Susanne and thanks again!
Anna
