face behind the in.cube8r®

isy galey, x-nanny, kindergarten teacher, almost art teacher, glass blower and general girl friday, nurtured a dream for over a decade to open a top-notch, friendly and approachable gallery, a “one-stop-shop” for all things hand-made in melbourne (and now australia-wide). a retail space which took no commission on sales, with a non-elitist friendly approach, acting as a platform for fledgling design.
she woke up one morning (after another nanny contract had ended, due to children growing up and going to school) and calculated that she had changed close to 25,000 nappies over the last 20 years, so perhaps it was time to fulfill the dream! she drove down to centerlink, signed up and also picked up a flyer for the new enterprise incentive scheme (NEIS) program.
upon completing the 7 week NEIS training, with a 50 page business plan in hand and well over 100 market research surveys, a grant was allocated and in.cube8r® was born in smith street, fitzroy on july 12, 2007.
the response from artists, both established and emerging, was fantastic. after only 7 weeks of being open, in.cube8r® was full and a waiting list had begun.
now, 5 years later, we are franchising and dream about representing hand-made everywhere… AND we’ve been nominated for NEIS awards and business of the year 3 years running!!
