We’re a handmade emporium & emerging artist gallery located in Fitzroy Victoria which is home to more than 90 ‘cubers’ and 10-15 visual artists at any one time.
We believe that if retail is to survive in this fast paced digital world it needs to be exciting, colourful, varied and exciting. We run this space to be as interactive as possible and encourage our cubers and the general public to engage with us through our cubing system, our group exhibitions, our workshops and as patrons of the arts.
We don’t see any reason to buy mass-produced when you can support small businesses, often run by parents of young children, retired people finally doing what they love, students, full time artists and dabblers. There’s so much that can be created right here in Melbourne & by supporting local businesses we’re shortnening the supply chain and helping the public buy directly from the maker.
Our Retail Emporium
Our retail emporium has lived here on the corner of Smith & Johnston streets since July 2007 and has been home to hundreds of Melbourne creatives during that time.
Creators of jewellery, ceramics, clothing, accessories and fine-art prints can rent a space that suits their needs and have their work available on sale to the public 7 days a week for just a few dollars a day!

Our Exhibition Space
Our exhibition space provides a place for visual artists to exhibit their work, be it through one of our solo shows, almost solo shows (4-6 artists exhibiting a range of work) or themed group exhibitions (10+ artists working to a theme).
We provide a place for artists to exhibit their work commission free while still reaping the benefits of being involved in a showcase including a show opening, online catalogue of works & a combination of digital and traditional marketing.
Our Other Services
We love helping artists grow, so we run a range of other programs to help them achieve their goals and grow their handmade businesses.
Our workshops are growing in popularity and range in topics from crafty subjects like making your own jewellery, learning how to sew and other arty classes to more marketing based workshops run by Elle-May on topics like online marketing, goal setting and other business topics. Find out more about upcoming workshops here.
Elle-May also runs one-on-one coaching with select artists who need a little bit of assistance getting their business off the ground.
We also run an online store to help expand the reach of our cubers in the digital space.
Elle-May took over in.cube8r in Feb 2016 after 10 years in a rewarding career in charity fundraising. She was ready for a change and up for the challenge of running her own business when in.cube8r came into her world.
Since arriving Elle has transformed in.cube8r and given it new life, adding the exhibition and workshop space and reinvigorating the online elements of the business. She has formed bonds with many of her clients and enjoys watching them grow their businesses as time passes.
Elle-May has a degree in Communications (Media) a diploma in design & certificates in business sales and front line management (as well as a very useful Musical Theatre cert 4) and shares knowledge from these degrees along with her hands on experience running in.cube8r with her clients.
Elle-May hopes to open more in.cube8r spaces over the next few years. In the meantime she plans to spend lots of time with her two house bunnies ObiWan & Buffy and rekindling her love of playing the piano.
