Amelia Saward

Amelia is a Melbourne based artist, writer and arts worker. Her work is inspired by nature, the home environment, women’s bodies, chronic illness and the relationship of our inner self to the surrounding world. Through often brightly coloured figurative pieces and works depicting everyday objects and scenes, she seeks to celebrate the things in life that can often go unnoticed. Primarily creating works on paper, Amelia uses a mix of drawing, painting and mixed media techniques, allowing her to combine elements of illustration with contemporary painting, bridging the historical divide between art and craft. It is a way of celebrating mediums and techniques that have previously been degraded as ‘women’s art’ or as merely decorative.
