Being Benign endeavours to provoke the wild side in you, inspired by and delivering wearable art. You were born to stand out! Take this journey with me and create your own identity.
Being Benign was born after the diagnosis of a benign brain tumor, founder and artist Stephanie decided to turn her recovery into an opportunity. She combined her love of fashion, visual art and self-expression into a clothing label dedicated to turning pre-loved clothing into works of art. She scours the op shop scene to find quality and unique garments.
Being Benign started through Stephanie’s love of a classic denim jacket and continues to push boundaries expanding her range to t-shirts, bags, jewellery, jeans, menswear and childrenswear.
Being Benign was established in early 2019, in Melbourne, Australia. Our products are all individually handmade and embellished with meticulous attention to detail.
Stephanie is a self-taught screen printer and hand painter. She started at the age of 15 screen printing t-shirts for friends on a handmade desk that her dad built.
Always having a love of personal style Stephanie spent 5 years as a Freelance Stylist, winning her place in competitions including her interpretation of “Rosie the Riveter”, part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. She spent several years as part of the team at Melbourne School of Fashion, helping students pursue their fashion careers through Work Experience and Volunteer Programs.
Stephanie now spends her days dreaming up and looking for inspiration for the next piece to hand paint!
