Melanie Thoren is an emerging artist living between Kew and Bendigo, who finds inspiration in the eccentricities of the everyday. Using surrealist techniques, Melanie draws from concepts concerning feminism, theatrics, identity, social expectations and escapism. Melanie practices in a range of mediums, including printmaking, painting, drawing, polaroid photography and collage. She has had work exhibited in Bendigo, and recently finished her Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts, but has now put some time aside to focus on creating. By using solid lines and vivid colours in her portraiture, she explores the dualism of through a lens of feminine psychosis. She is inspired by vintage commercials and science fiction, as well as the Australian bush.
