Rebecca Pidgeon

Creating self-portraits focussing on self-perception and identity.
Available: Fitzroy

Rebecca Pidgeon is the granddaughter of three-time Archibald Prize winner, William Edwin Pidgeon (WEP), and has subsequently been encouraged and inspired from a very young age to be creative and use art as a method of expression. A key theme in Pidgeon’s work is self-perception and identity. Having struggled with poor mental health since early high school and later being diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, she uses self-portraiture predominantly in her practice as a way of expressing how she views herself and the world around her. Her unique outlook on life as someone on the ASD spectrum allows her to create a dialogue about the internal and external struggles of trying to fit into a world not designed for someone like her.
