Up They Go! Original watercolour of a Melbourne construction site, by watercolour artist Carin Lavery
Melbourne’s skyline along St Kilda Road; a construction site of cranes, scaffolding, blockwork, creating our homes!
In this original watercolour Carin chose to mount the painting on top of the matt board, rather than underneath, showing the rough edges of the paper. A construction site is a dynamic place; so too is watercolour paper!
Carin often reproduces her paintings as limited edition giclée prints, to suit different frame sizes, but there’s only one original.

Melbourne sometimes seems to be one big construction site in places. This painting is the view from watercolour artist Carin Lavery’s home, looking along St Kilda Road. The skyline is broken by cranes and shells of buildings waiting for completion. Since Carin painting this, the view has changed considerably, with the church spire now not visible; completed buildings together with yet new ones still being constructed – a new construction site unfolding!
Carin’s paintings often combine the diversity and drama of nature with the subtlety and complexity of watercolour. They are vibrant and dramatic, or peaceful and atmospheric – capturing a moment in time.
Carin says “I create paintings to give joy, to the owner of the work or for people to give as a special gift. I’m so lucky to be able to connect with people in this way. To me, the subtlety and drama of watercolour, its beauty and depth captures the world we live in like no other medium”.
Created to fit standard frame sizes, Carin’s paintings are not supplied framed as this is safer for shipping and allows the owner to frame to suit their style, room and decor. Frames Now in Prahran Melbourne has frames to suit the size of this painting; frames are also available online or at other framers.
This original watercolour painting is personally signed by Carin and comes with her Certificate of Authenticity.
