Flame – sculpture by Wire and Fibre
NOT FOR SALE – selected finalist at the Art Textile Biennale 2020 by Fibre Arts Australia.
Hand knotted copper and steel wire. Height 64cm
This piece was created for the current exhibition “Structure” at In.cube8r Gallery, Fitzroy.
I wanted to build an intricate and ethereal structure with the application of industrial materials normally used for car wiring. My aim was to create harmony in this contradiction.
The technique I chose is my interpretation of basic macramé. It allowed me to create a shape that appears to be in flux. After many hours of wire twisting and sore hands, Flame was created.
For a subtle look, place it in front of a light wall. For a dramatic look, place it in front of a dark background.
