Vest – Silk Roads – Silk, Linen by Seamstress Philosophy
The silk roads connecting various kingdoms through trade and commerce. There is awe when thinking of when these roads were travelled and the various people who began to travel along them, share their stories, culture and wears.
This piece is brought together with hand-selected silk samples. When creating each garment usually, every pattern piece is cut and then sewn. This piece with the limited size and number of each section. Each panel was sewn together and cut in such a way that the surrounding offcuts could be used in other areas. It made the process lengthy and at times a tad mind-boggling. However, the result is worth it.
The garment is lined with define linen from Japan which was originally ordered by a company in Brunswick as a sample piece. The inside houses two pockets.
It is extremely satisfying to string together a project in ones’ mind. Then lay it all out re-arrange the section to form a creation.
